Davo: We Want To Be Unbeaten
KEVIN DAVIES has revealed that Wanderers want to extend their unbeaten spell to a fifth game as they end their season at Chelsea on Sunday.
Following their 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa, Gary Megson's men have gone on a run which has seen them pick up ten points from a possible 12 - a tally that has put them on the cusp of maintaining their Barclays Premier League status.
Barring a catastrophic defeat at Stamford Bridge, and big wins for either Reading or Fulham, Wanderers will ply their trade in the top flight next season for an eighth successive term.
But Davies is not thinking about defeat, and wants his team-mates to pick up a positive result.
He said: "We have to be careful on Sunday and approach the game in the right way. We've got a decent record at Chelsea and we're unbeaten now in four so we will be going down there and approaching it like any other game. We want to remain unbeaten until the end of the season."
"We're going to play exactly the same way that we do for any other away game - we know that we can create some problems for them; the lads are confident and all raring to go. We will be going and playing with the same physical approach and can't allow them too much time on the ball.
"It's not the end of the season for us yet - we've got another game and it's something that we want to get something out of. Manchester United have got to go to Wigan and do a job there, and we've got to do the same at Chelsea."
Davies believes the turning point came at the Reebok against West Ham, when his goal got Wanderers back on the winning track after a disappointing sequence of results.
"The win we got against West Ham was a big boost for us, not winning in so long was difficult for us and we threw the game away against Arsenal and that was hard for everyone - we just needed to get that win from somewhere and as you can see from the results afterwards, it's given everyone that massive lift.
"We were running out of games and we were starting to run a little bit adrift. We are just about there now and need to make sure we do a professional job. With one last push from everyone - get the season out of the way, have a good break and then come back and start working much harder for next year."
