TWO LATE goals from Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley gave the visitors the points to leave Wanderers reserves still searching for their first league win of the season.

The youngster struck in the 89th and 90th minutes in front of Wanderers' biggest crowd of the season as he saved the best until last.

Chances had previously been hard to come by in difficult conditions but a defensive lapse allowed Cleverley to side-foot United ahead.

Then moments later he capitalised on a mistake by goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, who came out of his area but slice his attempted clearance, to deliver the kind of finish from the right touchline that Cristiano Ronaldo would have been proud of.

It was harsh on the hosts, who dominated for long spells but failed to make the most of their few goalscoring opportunities.

Jimmy Phillips' men had done well to contain United in the first half as they played into the wind, restricting the visitors to long-range shots with captain Sam Hewson going closest.

Wanderers' best effort had come from Kevin Wolze, whose goalbound effort was headed clear by James Chester, and the home side then dictated for a spell early in the second half.

The outstanding Rob Sissons had a shot charged down following a Steve Basham free-kick, who later almost got on the end of a set-piece from Michael Burns.

But Wanderers' best opening fell to Burns who shot wide following a fine move involving Sissons and Zoltan Harsanyi after an hour and Cleverley made them pay.
